Labor Day Movie Weekend

I saw three movies this weekend, two which would fall under the "Halloween Boy" umbrella. (The third was "Kubo and the Two Strings", and that was excellent as well as beautiful. Go see it, please.).

DO SEE:

Don't Breathe

It was shot wonderfully, it was tense, it has one of those scenes you'll be talking about later with friends..... Plus, the main actress is the same who played Ash in the Evil Dead remake (same production company, too, I believe), and I'm crushing on her big time. I hope she continues the trend of being in some of the better horror flicks to come out in a while.

MEH:
Rob Zombie's 31

I really enjoyed House of 1,000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects when I saw them. I didn't see his last two outings, but hadn't honestly heard great things. So when we got a chance to see an early screening of this we took it. There's some stuff in 31 that I enjoyed, but really overall the movie felt like it didn't know what it was trying to say. Too many times did we see the "slow shutter, we stare in horror" effect tried. They were trying to grab some of that feel from his earlier movies, but it sort of just landed flat. I feel like if they tried a little less and just had fun with it, this could have been a way better movie. But that's just, you know, my opinion, man.

I may or may not have made a trip to Michael's and Target.....

I'm a big fan of Target's design choices they make every year (I may have said that in posts previous...). My first sighting of this year's creations are on this Market Pantry brand box of mixed fruit snacks. Look at that little guy. LOOK AT HIM.

I'm also a fan of anything with even a vaguely Halloweenish theme

Butterfinger Cups are one of my favorite mass produced candies. It is one of the few things that if I see it on sale, I'll probably snag one. And now they are skull shaped. We're done folks. Everyone go home now.
